Olivia Rodrigo Makes a Bloody Good Return to Music With New Song "Vampire"
ViewDate:2025-04-28 09:39:14
Olivia Rodrigo is out for blood.
After weeks of teasing her new music, the three-time Grammy winner officially dropped "Vampire," her first song from her upcoming sophomore album GUTS. The 20-year-old's latest single comes more than two years after the release of her debut album, Sour.
"I used to think I was smart / But you made me look so naïve," she sings from a stage at a faux awards show in the music video. "The way you sold me for parts / As you sunk your teeth into me, oh / Bloodsucker, fame f--ker / Bleedin' me dry like a goddamn vampire."
Later in the video, Olivia gets hit with a stage light and starts to bleed, before being chased out of the auditorium by photographers and taking off across Los Angeles.
After releasing Sour in May 2021, the Disney Channel star went on to earn seven Grammy nominations, scooping up three awards including for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance.
Not only did the record become an instant hit with fans, but its popularity continues to surge, considering Sour is now 4x Platinum in the U.S. alone. So, it's no wonder why fans were more than ready to sink their teeth into her new track.
Ahead of the release of "Vampire," Olivia opened up about being elated to work on another project.
"It's really exciting to think about the next world that's coming up for me," she told Billboard in February 2022. "I just love writing songs. I'm trying not to put too much pressure on myself. [I want to] just sort of explore and have fun right now."
And that fun, of course, derives from what she loves the most.
"I absolutely love pop-punk and emo music," she noted. "I think more than anything people are longing for those super emotional, less polished moments in music, so the aggressiveness of punk is really enticing."
As for how she feels about the pressure of having to follow up the success of her first album? Well, her outlook seems to be pretty sweet.
"It's definitely a different experience writing a second album after having a debut that was so well received," she shared. "I still write so much of my music in my bedroom though, and I don't think that experience will ever change. Writing songs will hopefully always be an outlet for me to process my feelings before anything else."
Olivia's second album, GUTS, will be released Sept. 8.
